LAY READERS

St. Alban’s Episcopal Church

The Lay Readers and Eucharistic Ministers are a group of trained volunteers who perform the functions of reading the lessons, the epistles, the prayers of the people, and serve the chalice at all Sunday and Wednesday services. They have been licensed at the annual diocesan council by the Bishop of West Texas. Their ministry is under the direction of the rector within parameters established by Church Canon. The Canons have recently authorized Lay Eucharistic Ministers to take the sacrament to the sick and shut in immediately following the Eucharistic Service.

Training is required. Meetings are held as needed. We try to keep the number of licensed readers and Eucharistic ministers of a size that each can serve once monthly. If interested, contact the rector or Bob Hatcher.
